Report: Chiefs are not interested in trade for Giants CB James Bradberry

Chiefs Wire

The Kansas City Chiefs were previously reported to have an interest in making a trade for New York Giants CB James Bradberry, but that seems to not be the case.

According to NFL Network’s Jeffri Chadiha, the Chiefs are denying any interest and involvement in those trade talks. Specifically, the team doesn’t have interest in taking on a $13.4 million salary-cap hit for the 2022 NFL season.

The talk about the Chiefs looking to trade for Giants CB James Bradberry isn’t serious,” Chadiha wrote on Twitter. “A Chiefs source says the team hasn’t been involved with that and don’t plan on getting involved. They don’t want to take on Bradberry’s $13.4 million salary.”

Now, the only reason Bradberry is even on the trade block is because of his massive $21.9-million-dollar cap hit with the Giants. A trading team would take on $13.4 million in cap hit for the 2022 NFL season without an extension. It was assumed that a trade would include some sort of extension, which would involve salary cap relief for both teams. This report seems to suggest that option isn’t on the table, at least not for the Chiefs. Now, things could change if New York decides to release Bradberry, but nothing is imminent on that front.

Kansas City clearly has some level of interest in the remaining cornerback market. They have also been connected to Stephon Gilmore, most recently by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who reports the team has done extensive research. However, it sounds like Gilmore holding out in hopes of receiving a better offer from the teams who are interested. It could take until after the draft for him to find a landing spot with a new team.
