The New Jersey Devils (23-35-5) travel to meet the Toronto Maple Leafs (39-18-5) at Scotiabank Arena Wednesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Devils vs. Maple Leafs odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Devils snapped a three-game losing skid with a 7-4 home win over the New York Rangers Tuesday. New Jersey has averaged 4.0 goals per game across its last four outings, cashing the Over in each contest.

The Maple Leafs were dumped 6-3 at the Nashville Predators Saturday, snapping a two-game win streak. The Leafs topped the Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars in the previous two home games, and they’re 3-0-1 in four outings at Scotiabank Arena since March 8.

Devils at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Nico Daws (7-6-0, 3.07 GAA, .901 SV%) vs. Erik Kallgren (2-1-1, 2.32 GAA, .930 SV%, 1 SO)

The German-born backstop Daws has dropped each of his past two road outings, coughing up 4 goals in starts at Vancouver and Calgary. He hasn’t won on the road in four games dating back to Feb. 24 in Pittsburgh.

The rookie Kallgren has been a breath of fresh air with G Jack Campbell injured and G Petr Mrazek hitting the waiver wire after a handful of awful showings.

Kallgren allowed just 3 goals on 82 shots in his first three games, including two starts. He crashed back to Earth a little in the Music City, allowing 5 goals on 33 shots, so we’ll see if his early hot start was a flash in the pan.

Devils at Maple Leafs odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Devils 3

Money line

The Maple Leafs (-320) will cost you more than three times your initial wager, and that’s terribly risky for a team that has just two wins in the past five outings, and four victories across the previous nine outings.

The Leafs are also using a rookie goaltender in just his fourth start and fifth NHL appearance.

AVOID.

Against the spread

All of that said, the MAPLE LEAFS -1.5 (-130) are the better play on home ice laying the goal and a half.

Seven of Toronto’s last nine victories since Feb. 14 have been by 2 or more goals. In addition, the Devils just played Tuesday, and they’re a dismal 5-17 across the past 22 games when working on no rest.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (-135) is the way to go here.

The Over has cashed in four straight outings for the Devils while going 20-6-1 across their last 27 games on the road. This is a team that took care of the Over on their own Tuesday night vs. NYR. The Over is also 12-3-1 in their last 16 when working on no rest.

The trends also point to the Over for the Leafs, going 19-6-1 in the past 26 as a favorite, while going 9-3-1 in the previous 13 against Eastern Conference foes.
