The Montreal Canadiens and New York Islanders meet Sunday in NHL action at the UBS Arena. The Montreal Canadiens need a win after losing 10 of their last 11 games. The New York Islanders need a win after losing six of their last nine games.

The Montreal Canadiens are averaging 2.2 goals per game and are scoring on 13.5 percent of their power play opportunities. Nick Suzuki leads Montreal with 9 goals, Jonathan Drouin has 14 assists and Josh Anderson has 89 shots on goal. Defensively, the Montreal Canadiens are allowing 4 goals per game and are killing 73.3 percent of their opponent’s power plays. Jake Allen has given up 70 goals on 707 shots faced, and Sam Montembeault has allowed 70 goals on 668 shots.

The New York Islanders are averaging 2.4 goals per game and are scoring on 18 percent of their power play opportunities. Brock Nelson leads New York with 16 goals, Mathew Barzal has 21 assists and Oliver Wahlstrom has 106 shots on goal. Defensively, the New York Islanders are allowing 2.8 goals per game and are killing 82.1 percent of their opponent’s power plays. Ilya Sorokin has given up 75 goals on 946 shots faced, and Semyon Varlamov has allowed 35 goals on 418 shots.

The Canadiens are 15-42 in their last 57 road games and 10-44 in their last 54 overall. The Islanders are 0-5 in their last 5 Sunday games and 12-3 in their last 15 games as a favorite. The over is 7-2 in Canadiens last 9 overall. The over is 3-1-1 in Islanders last 5 overall. The Canadiens are 9-2 in the last 11 meetings in New York and 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.

The New York Islanders are the better team here from top to bottom and are going to get the benefit of the doubt at home. The Montreal Canadiens have also been arguably the worst team in the league, and they get blasted on the road. I’m not thrilled to side with the Habs in any shape or form. However, the Islanders shouldn’t be priced -200 or greater against anybody. It probably won’t pay out, but there’s some sort of value with the Canadiens and big plus money.
