With cap space tight and complicated roster decisions on the horizon, the Wild have extended the contract of 6-foot-6 left wing Jordan Greenway, per sources. The deal is for three years at $3 million per year, locking up the 24-year-old through 2024-25.
Greenway is in the final season of a two-year, $4.2 million contract, signed in October 2020, and would have become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights this summer. He has four goals, 13 points and a plus-17 rating in 33 games this season and 30 goals and 98 points in 243 career games. He had a career-best 32 points and a team-best 26 assists in 56 games last season.
While the Wild would love for him to be producing more this season, Greenway’s value comes from his defensive smarts, physicality and willingness to embrace a role on the penalty kill. He is one-third of the Wild’s dominant GREEF line, along with Joel Eriksson Ek and Marcus Foligno. According to MoneyPuck, in 185 minutes together at five-on-five this season, the trio hasn’t been on the ice for a single goal against and has outscored Western Conference lines 9-0.
