The head-coaching interview for Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett with the Jacksonville Jaguars is expected to happen next week during the team’s bye week.

Hackett said he’s “very excited” about the opportunity, especially after clinching the No. 1 seed in the NFC last week.

“We’re going to do it during the bye because we wrapped up the No. 1 seed. We’re really excited about the opportunity. It’s a dream for any football coach to even have an opportunity to potentially become a head coach,” Hackett said Thursday. “It’s a credit to everybody in this organization. I wouldn’t be in this position without all the great people around here.”

Hackett said the Jaguars reached out early in the process to request an interview but he wanted to delay any kind of formal sit down until after the Packers had the No. 1 seed wrapped up. Last week’s win over the Minnesota Vikings checked that box.

“They reached out, and when they reached out early, I owed to this organization and to all these players, we wanted to wrap up the No. 1 seed, that was so important to do,” Hackett said. “It’s absolutely an honor to be even considered for something like this.”

Hackett has been Matt LaFleur’s offensive coordinator since 2019. His experience in one of the NFL’s most popular offensive systems and his work with MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers are both intriguing aspects of his head-coaching profile for teams. He’s also helped design the Packers’ red-zone packages, and Rodgers has sung his praises on more than one occasion.

Hackett wants to be a head coach, but his first goal is winning the Super Bowl in Green Bay.

“The No. 1 priority is going to be winning that Super Bowl,” Hackett said. “But very lucky to have that No. 1 seed to be able to take advantage of this opportunity.”
