As the season has gone along, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones has shown progress in several areas as he adjust to life in the NFL. Center David Andrews noticed one particular thing he has improved upon as the playoffs approach and the competition becomes stiffer.

As noted by Zack Cox of NESN.com, Andrews has realized that Jones has been loving the game a little bit more. Right now, the Patriots sit with a 9-5 record and hold the third spot in the AFC. Jones has recorded 3,168 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He’s been able to steer the Patriots back into playoff contention and has given them a shot at a division title, in a year when many wondered if it was possible.

“I think he really loves football, and I think that’s a big thing,” Andrews said Thursday in a video conference. “Because it is a long season. It’s a grind. I think you have to love the game of football, especially in a place like (New England) at times. You’ve got to love the preparation and all the things that go into it. I think he definitely does, and (he’s) seeming to have more fun and things like that.

“I think that’s something you do when you get older and start progressing: starting to have more fun and just being able to take a breath a little bit here and there. I remember what it was like being a rookie.”

The Patriots have a challenging schedule ahead, with the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins fighting for the playoffs. As playoff possibilities and seedings change week to week, one thing that is not changing is Jones’ passion for the game.
