G2 Esports vs Ninjas in Pyjamas

  • When: Wednesday, December 15 – 13:30 CET

G2 Esports and Ninjas in Pyjamas will clash on the battlefield on Wednesday for the first time since early November when they met at PGL Major Stockholm 2021. G2 won that bout 2-0, with 16-11 on Inferno and Mirage.

Since May 2021, NiP have met with G2 five times and won three bouts, albeit they’re 0-2 across their last two, including a 1-13 defeat in October. With such a poor head-to-head record, it makes sense to see G2 priced as the favorites, but there are more reasons why you should prefer the French-Balkan roster for this fixture.

Ninjas in Pyjamas have had some solid showings of late, but they enter BLAST Premier: World Final 2021 severely weakened. As revealed by the Swedish esports organization, Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz will not attend the tournament, effectively meaning Ninjas in Pyjamas are without their star player.

Although NiP still have enough talent left to deserve respect, missing dev1ce will be a huge handicap that won’t help their cause against a team like G2.

G2 Esports have had ups and downs this year, but of late, they have been playing surprisingly well. Most notably, G2 made it all the way to the finals of the PGL Major Stockholm, where they have lost only one match throughout the entire tournament, and even that came against the current no.1 team in the world, Natus Vincere.

The same team also defeated G2 in the finals of Intel Extreme Masters XVI – Cologne in July and BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2021 in June.

Had dev1ce been playing for NiP, we would consider the Swedes with a map handicap, but without the Dane in the roster, NiP will struggle to win a single map, let alone the whole series.

Prediction: G2 Esports -1.5 maps

Team Vitality vs Astralis

  • When: Wednesday, December 15 – 16:30 CET

Team Vitality and Astralis last met at the end of November, during BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2021, when Vitality reverse-swept the Danish outfit with 12-16 on Nuke, 16-11 on Inferno, and 16-7 on Mirage. It marked their second tournament clash, as they already met three days prior, when Vitality won 2-1, with 22-18 on Nuke, 14-16 on Dust2, and 16-11 on Inferno.

Vitality won their last two meetings with Astralis; however, both fixtures were very close, so it wouldn’t be fair to say that the French squad is undeniably better. What’s more, Astralis have recently made roster changes, so they haven’t reached their peak form (and synergy) yet.

Based on what we have seen from these two teams, there isn’t a lot to separate them quality-wise. The bookmakers seem to favor Vitality, which is reasonable since they are 2-0 up in the head-to-head with Astralis, but winning two bouts last month doesn’t necessarily guarantee them success on Wednesday.

Astralis have enough talent to be one of the top teams globally, but while the potential is there, Astralis still seem a bit unpredictable. If they play at 100%, Astralis will win, but there’s about a 50/50 chance for that to happen.

Still, Astralis are priced as high as +160 for this bout, which seems a bit too high, and we will gladly take these odds on a 50/50 match.

Prediction: Astralis to win
