The Kansas City Chiefs have added a game status designation to an important defender ahead of the Week 14 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Chiefs announced on Saturday that second-year CB L’Jarius Sneed would be listed as questionable for the game, but not due to any sort of late injury or illness. According to the team, Sneed will be listed as questionable due to personal reasons. A report from Shreveport, Louisiana’s KTBS-TV indicates that Sneed’s 32-year-old brother, TQ Harrison, was killed in his hometown of Minden, Louisiana overnight.

This tragedy puts Sneed’s status in question for the upcoming game at Arrowhead Stadium, a game in which the Chiefs also have cornerbacks dealing with injuries. Chris Lammons has already been ruled out of the game and Rashad Fenton was listed as questionable with a knee sprain suffered back in Week 11.

Sneed had one of his best games of the season in Las Vegas back in Week 10, with 5 solo tackles, a tackle for loss and a QB hit. He has come on and started playing some of his best football in recent weeks. Over the course of 12 games started, he has recorded a pair of interceptions, six passes defended, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, 62 total tackles, six tackles for loss and two QB hits.

Should Sneed miss the Week 14 game against the Raiders, the team will have some decisions to make in the secondary. If Fenton also doesn’t play, look for the team to elevate both Dicaprio Bootle and Josh Jackson from the practice squad. Bootle is the team’s understudy at the nickel corner position, while Jackson was protected on the practice squad this week and could fill in on special teams for Lammons. This would also mean a second consecutive week with a larger role for Deandre Baker, who played over 65% of the defensive snaps in Week 13.
