Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced on Thursday that the team has agreed to terms with Martin Lapointe on a three-year contract extension (2021-22 to 2023-24), along with the addition of new duties as the club's director of amateur scouting.

Lapointe will also maintain his director of player personnel duties for the duration of the new contract, which begins on July 1.

Hired as the Canadiens' director of player development in 2012, Lapointe enjoyed a 16-year NHL career during which he was a member of four teams before becoming a professional scout for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2009.
