History often repeats itself. Typically, though, it’s a little less blatant.
Six years after Aníbal Sánchez and Max Scherzer took no-hitters into the sixth innings of consecutive American League Championship Series games, those two accomplished the same thing in Games 1 and 2 of the NLCS presented by GEICO at Busch Stadium — and, in fact, took it a little farther. Sánchez took a no-hitter into the eighth inning of Game 1, before Scherzer had one broken up in the seventh against the Cardinals in Game 2.
Sánchez and Scherzer were already the only pitchers in history to hold the same team hitless through five innings in consecutive postseason games. Now, they’ve done it twice.
