J.A. Happ was told Sunday that his role for the rest of the year will be out of the bullpen. The veteran lefty, who struggled through a tough season, will pitch in relief on Wednesday as a way to prepare.
“I mean, it is what it is. I am comfortable with doing what it takes to try and win in the postseason,” Happ said Sunday after Yankees manager Aaron Boone hinted he would not be starting in the final week of the season.
Ironically, Happ has had his best stretch of the year over his last five starts, while he has been dealing with left biceps tendinitis. He has pitched to a 2.30 ERA, allowing seven earned runs on his last 27.1 innings pitched.
