Wagering in the first couple of weeks of the college football season is never an easy task, as we don’t really know enough about each team to make great selections. That said, there is still plenty of data to fall back on, with the opening week of the year often giving us some clues as to what to expect from a team. There are those who are going to be offensively solid, while others are going to lean more heavily on defense.
All of that comes into play when looking at the point totals for the week, as it helps us pick out games where the OVER or UNDER looks like a very good NCAA Football Bet. Let’s take a look at 4 games that might well fit the O/U bill in Week 2.
2019 College Football Week 2 Over/Under Picks
Syracuse Orange vs Maryland Terrapins (OVER 57)Given the fact that both of these teams won in Week 1 without giving up a single point, you might imagine that we are in for a low-scoring affair here. Sure, both defenses were solid, but they were also both going up against much lesser competition.
There are some definite trends with both teams that point me towards the OVER in this one. Week 2 has been a big one for the Orange in terms of the O/U, as they have seen 5 of their last 6 games go OVER in the second week of the season. Similarly, the OVER tends to hit when Maryland faces teams from the ACC, with 4 of the last 5 going that route.
Old Dominion Monarchs vs Virginia Tech Hokies (OVER 56 ½)This is another game where there is a lot to like in terms of the OVER play, as both of these teams have made a habit of going that route in their recent games. Old Dominion saw their opening week total fall under, but that was a bit of a rare event, as they have now seen 8 of their last 11 outings go OVER the point total.
Overall, the Hokies have seen 5 of their last 6 games go OVER, including their season opener last weekend. That trend carries over to home games for Virginia Tech, with 5 of the last 7 at home going OVER.
Richmond Spiders vs Boston College Eagles (UNDER 57)This is a game that should be considered a somewhat straightforward win for the Boston College Eagles, who saw their season open with a 35-28 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies.
I am looking for the Eagles to hit around the same number of points in this one, but I also like them to be a little stouter defensively against a much lesser team. The UNDER has hit in 4 of the last 6 games for Boston College, while it has also been the UNDER in 7 of their last 9 games played in Week 2 of the season.
Illinois Fighting Illini vs Connecticut Huskies (UNDER 59 ½)Both of these teams saw their season get off to a winning start in Week 1, with both of their games falling UNDER the point total. While Illinois have seen 5 of their last 7 go the opposite direction, September seems to be the month where things tend to be a little tighter for them.
During the month of September, the Fighting Illini has seen 4 of their last 5 go UNDER. It is much the same story for UConnin Week 2 games, with 7 of their last 9 going the way of the UNDER.
