Only two regular season NASCAR races remain, which means drivers have very little chance of qualifying for the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Playoffs. This Sunday’s event, the Southern Bojangles 500, presents 7 NASCAR odds of +500 to +700. To say the race is wide-open is an understatement! Which driver among Kyle Busch, Truex Jr., Logano, Larson, Hamlin, Keselowski, and Harvick has the best chance of winning the 2019 Bojangles Southern 500?
Martin Truex Jr. won in 2016, Denny Hamlin won in 2017, and Brad Keselowski won in 2018. We should probably start our analysis with those three drivers. Truex Jr. finished thirteenth at Bristol, the last NASCAR race. Both Hamlin and Keselowski finished in the Top 3, with Kesel crossing the finish line third and Denny winning the Bristol race.
Of the two, Hamlin looks strong, but Keselowski is the better play. He won this race in 2018 and the third place finish signals he and his crew are on the same page. Brad Keselowski gets the nod as the +500 to +700 choice to back.
But, that doesn’t mean Harvick, Logano, and Larson don’t have a shot. Of those three, Larson presents the best choice. Kyle finished sixth at the Bristol race. He finished third behind Logano and Keselowski in this last year. Larson’s odds peg him as the true favorite in the race. If you don’t like Keselowski’s chances at +700 and want to go chalky, Larson’s the play.
Is there a driver between +1200 and +2800 odds that can win the 2019 Bojangles Southern 500?
Chase Elliott most definitely has a chance at +1200. In 2018, Elliott finished fifth at the Bojangles Southern 500. At Bristol, he finished fifth, which means he’ll have a shot on Sunday.
If you’re not sold on Elliott, especially at the odds, you could do worse than to back +2000 choice Kurt Busch. Busch finished sixth at this race last year. At Bristol, he clocked in ninth. Both Elliott and Busch should make some noise on Sep. 1.
What longshot driver with odds of at least +4000 can take the checkered flag on September 1?
When it comes to longshots we must often just throw darts and hope one sticks on a winner. That might not be the case this Sunday. Matt DiBenedetto chased Denny Hamlin around the track at Bristol. He eventually finished second, but he had a great race.
DiBenedetto’s form hasn’t been atrocious. He finished seventeenth at Pocono and twentieth at Michigan. However, he finished fifth at New Hampshire and sixth at Watkins Glen. On Sunday, he heads to Darlington off his best finish of the year. He has a better shot than the +6600 odds indicate.
