Tennessee cornerback Bryce Thompson was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor domestic assault Saturday and jailed overnight.
Thompson and a woman got into an argument around 8 p.m. Saturday in Stokely Hall on the University of Tennessee-Knoxville campus, according to court records.
"We are aware of the situation and are waiting for additional information while the appropriate processes take place," a Tennessee spokesperson told Knox News.
Tennessee's season opener is against Georgia State on Aug. 31.
Thompson reportedly told the woman he would "slap the (expletive) out of you." Multiple people told police they heard him threaten to "shoot up the school," according to an arrest warrant.
University of Tennessee police officers said Thompson was "extremely upset and agitated" when they arrived, and a metal gate had been unhinged, damaging a wall.
