University of Miami cornerback DJ Ivey has been suspended for the Hurricanes’ season opener against the Florida Gators for a violation of team rules.
Although University of Miami football coach Manny Diaz said twice this week that he expected all his players to travel to Orlando for the Camping World Kickoff, UM announced Saturday evening that Ivey did not make the trip.
“DJ Ivey will not play tonight — he did not travel,’’ a UM spokesperson said in a text message to the Miami Herald. “Violation of team rules.’’
Ivey is a 6-1, 195-pound sophomore who was listed as a co-starter in UM’s depth chart released this past week.
Former Hurricanes punter Brian Monroe, now an analyst for WQAM, first posted the news Saturday afternoon on Twitter.
