Chris Sale said he has no damage or tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. He only has elbow inflammation, he said.
Sale underwent a PRP injection Monday in Pensacola, Fla., where he was examined by renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews. He’ll rest for 4-6 weeks, then Dr. Andrews will re-evaluate him.
“We got some better news. Obviously not great news,” Sale said here at Fenway Park on Tuesday. “As as good of news as we could get.”
Whether Sale’s 2019 season is finished is not his call, he said. But he likely won’t pitch again given the timetable of 4-6 weeks rest. Only 5 1/2 weeks remain in the regular season. The Red Sox also are six games back for the second Wild Card.
