NCAA grants sixth year to Ga. Tech QB Lucas Johnson

Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Georgia Tech quarterback Lucas Johnson will get another season of eligibility, it appears. Johnson sent out a tweet Tuesday announcing that he has received a sixth season of eligibility from the NCAA, which will give him another year of competition to replace the one he lost to a season-ending foot injury in 2018.

Johnson’s eligibility standing will revert to sophomore, and he will be able to play for the Yellow Jackets in 2020 and 2021. Johnson appears to have the lead in the competition to be the starting quarterback for the Yellow Jackets.

It was a decision similar to the one that the NCAA handed down in late July to linebacker David Curry, who was also given an additional season of eligibility because of a foot injury that cost him all of the 2017 season. With the extra year, he is now a junior eligibility-wise.
