Eight months after nearly transferring out of the University of Miami, redshirt freshman Jarren Williams has been named the starting quarterback for the Hurricanes, the team announced on Monday morning.

Williams won the training camp competition to be UM’s starter over redshirt sophomores Tate Martell, who transferred in from Ohio State this offseason, and N’Kosi Perry, who has playing experience with the Hurricanes last season.

UM announced Williams, who is 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, the starter in a tweet on Monday that read “QB1” with video of Williams’ scrimmage highlights.
