The New York Mets' approach before the July 31 trade deadline will reportedly include a deal involving Noah Syndergaard.
Per Bob Klapisch of the New York Times, the Mets' "next move" will be to trade Syndergaard, not Zack Wheeler.
New York's first move came earlier on Sunday when MLB.com's Jon Morosi reported the team agreed to acquire Marcus Stroman from the Toronto Blue Jays.
It's unclear at this point where Syndergaard will end up, though the former All-Star has been connected to virtually every playoff contender in need of pitching help.
Per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Mets were considering a scenario in which they would deal Syndergaard to the San Diego Padres and use some of the assets they received in return as part of a package for Stroman.
