Chris Paul is still one of the better basketball IQ’s in the game today. Even with age, Paul’s tremendous basketball mind adds value to any team. One of the better guards in the last decade and a basketball savant who has aged gracefully. Any team who is trying to contend now would be fortunate to acquire his services.
The Pistons had quite the offseason so far, but have yet to make that move to create serious contending buzz surrounding their franchise. Detroit basketball should be feared and felt by the entirety of the league. Adding a true floor general and reviving one of the best 1-2 punches in the league in a few years ago would do wonders. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin had a falling out, but their chemistry to be was off the charts.
A few things we have to consider about the difference of this pairing now. They would be in a weaker conference in the East. Blake Griffin is coming off the best year of his career. Andre Drummond is slightly better than DeAndre Jordan in the way that he is actively working to diversify his offensive repertoire. Drummond is starting to shoot jumpers and is more mobile than Jordan. The Pistons have to position themselves to take the next step. There is no point to be another first round exit next year.
The Thunder would bring back a familiar face in Reggie Jackson, which the fans would love in a potential rebuild. The return of a former fan favorite. Galloway and Snell would add much-needed spacing to a team that desperately needs the outside shooting touch. To me, Thon Maker is the most intriguing piece in return with his two-way upside. A skilled rim protector with unreal athleticism and a smooth j.
The Thunder Receive: Reggie Jackson, Langston Galloway, Tony Snell and Thon Maker
The Pistons Receive: Chris Paul
The Timberwolves are in the hunt for a star to pair with Karl-Anthony Towns. Chris Paul would fit in seamlessly. The trading of terrible contracts always make for interesting swaps, but I believe both teams could find common ground here. The Timberwolves are trying to turn potential into results. The Wolves have made a lot of under-the-radar moves this summer, but nothing to take them to the next level. Next level meaning playoff contention.
Chris Paul can be the leader Minny desperately needs. As a young team pining for playoff contention, the Timberwolves need a new floor general. Derrick Rose is Detroit bound, Jeff Teague is on the injury shelf, and Tyus Jones wanted to get paid by Memphis. The addition of Shabazz Napier is solid, but he is not a starting guard. CP3 and KAT could potentially become one of the best 1-2 punches in basketball. A starting lineup of Chris Paul, Josh Okogie, Robert Covington, Noah Vonleh and Karl-Anthony Towns is through the roof with great two-way upside. Chris Paul can function as an offensive visionary willing to defer to the young guns. Paul makes players around him better.
The Thunder are actively seeking to move on from Chris Paul.
