Sophomore quarterback Marvin Washington and junior wide receiver Keyion Dixon will each transfer out of the UConn football program, the players announced Monday in separate social media posts.
Washington had been expected to compete for the starting quarterback job in 2019, while Dixon was projected as a potential top receiving option.
“Life doesn’t always go as we plan but everything always happens for a reason,” Dixon wrote in a note posted to Twitter. “I thank Coach Bob Diaco and his staff for allowing me to play at this level and give me the opportunity.”
In a statement shared on his Instagram story Monday afternoon, Washington thanked coach Randy Edsall and the Huskies’ staff.
“After much thought with my parents and High School coaches, to achieve where I want to go on the field & accomplish the goals I’ve set in my life I believed it is in my best interest to transfer," he wrote.
