On the court, Kawhi Leonard has been one of the biggest stars of the 2019 NBA playoffs. Off the court, he’s suiting up to do battle with one of the biggest brands in the world: Nike.
According to Portland Business Journal reporter Matthew Kish, Kawhi has filed a federal lawsuit against Nike. Per the report, Leonard is alleging that he designed the logo that appeared on his Nike apparel, but the company trademarked it without his consent.
Last year, Kawhi left the Nike and the Jordan Brand in favor of a deal with New Balance. There must have been some kind of falling out between the sides as Kawhi reportedly left a $20 million extension with the brand on the table.
Kawhi’s logo is a drawing of his hand that forms his initials, “KL.” It was featured on his signature shoes with Jordan Brand and was affectionately nicknamed “The Klaw.”
