Back in February, it was reported that Major League Baseball was considering either a Mets-Nationals or Cubs-Cardinals series to be played in London in 2020.
A decision was expected to be made after the start of the 2019 season and we finally have our answer fewer than 50 games deep. Per Bob Nightengale, an MLB columnist for USA TODAY Sports, Chicago and St. Louis have agreed to face off overseas next year at London Stadium.
The #Cubs and #Stlcards have agreed to play in London next summer. The #Yankees and #Redsox play the inaugural series in Europe next month. #Rivalries going overseas. — Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) May 16, 2019
The MLB has seriously pushed for more international games and that became apparent after a two-game set between the Yankees and Red Sox was scheduled from June 29-30. Of course, the Athletics and Mariners opened the 2019 season in Tokyo and the league has already seen a number of games played in Mexico this season.
