Miguel Andujar hasn’t been the same player since his return, and the Yankees believe his right shoulder is the cause of his struggles at the plate.
Last year’s American League Rookie of the Year runner-up is going back on the 10-day injured list, the Yankees announced Monday. He has gone just 3-for-34 since coming back from a torn labrum in his right shoulder. The Yankees called up lefty Nestor Cortes with the corresponding move.
“We do feel feel like the injury is certainly a contributing factor to some of the struggles,” manager Aaron Boone said before the Yankees hosted the Orioles and before the Yankees officially made the move. “The IL is something we might do real quickly and just give it a little timeout to declare itself a little bit more and reevaluate it.”
