Sporting News

Texas Tech redshirt freshman defensive lineman John Scott III has been released from the hospital in Lubbock, Texas, a week after being shot, the school confirmed over the weekend.

"Thank you to all who have kept him in their thoughts this past week," the Red Raiders football program said in the tweet announcing Scott's release from University Medical Center.

Suspect Asia Devine Jackson, 24, surrendered to Lubbock police the morning of April 28 after being accused of shooting the defensive lineman and another person early in the evening of April 27, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported.

Police confirmed that Scott was seriously injured in the shooting, and the school confirmed that he spent time in the intensive care unit with undisclosed injuries.
