A Western Conference executive wouldn’t be surprised if Golden State Warriors big man DeMarcus Cousins is the Los Angeles Lakers’ or New York Knicks’ “consolation prize” in free agency this summer, according to Ken Berger of Bleacher Report.
The exec says teams who don’t get a big fish this summer like Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving or Jimmy Butler are going to be desperate and will give a player like Cousins more money than they should.
“A lot of teams are going to be left at the altar and are going to have to pay the max to someone who doesn’t deserve it. He’ll be the Lakers’ or the Knicks’ consolation prize.”
DeMarcus Cousins, of course, is coming off another serious injury. He suffered a tear in his left quadriceps muscle in Game 2 against the Los Angeles Clippers. Boogie was forced to sign a one-year deal with the Warriors last summer worth $5.3 million.
