Guard Kyle Guy opts to stay in NBA Draft, will not return to Virginia

Daily Progress

The words will come to Kyle Guy, that much he knows. He’s not sure when.

But at some point, the former Virginia guard said Monday in a Twitter post, he’ll find the proper way to express how much the past three seasons have meant to him, how Charlottesville will live forever in his heart.

But Monday, in announcing he will be keeping his name in the 2019 NBA Draft, Guy opted for simplicity.

“Charlottesville, I just want to say, ‘Thank you so much,’” Guy wrote. “I’ll never forget this.”

Neither will Wahoos fans.

Guy, who will forgo his final year of eligibility, helped engineer one of the greatest comeback stories in sports history, guiding Virginia from laughing stock to NCAA champion in about one calendar year. Less than 13 months after he returned to Charlottesville heartbroken, too hurt to watch the Final Four after the Cavaliers lost to No. 16-seed UMBC in the first round, he was named the event’s Most Outstanding Player, having scored 15 points — including three game-clinching free throws — against Auburn in the national semifinal and 24 points in the title game win over Texas Tech.
