Taylor Hall works Draft Lottery magic as Devils win top pick again

Taylor Hall did it again.

The New Jersey Devils left wing and apparent NHL Draft Lottery whisperer improved upon the "record that will stand forever" after his team earned the top pick for the fifth time in nine NHL seasons.

Hall, who was selected with the top pick in the 2010 NHL Draft after the Edmonton Oilers won the lottery that year, watched Edmonton pick first three times (2011, 2012 and 2015) in his six seasons there. New Jersey has earned the top pick twice in three years since he was traded there for Adam Larsson on June 29, 2016.

After the Devils won the lottery, and the right to select Nico Hischier at that year's draft, in 2017, Hall called himself lottery ball specialist. That was proven again Tuesday, when New Jersey beat the odds, moving up from No. 3 to the top pick at the 2019 NHL Draft in Vancouver on June 21. They are expected to select forward Jack Hughes with the pick.

Earlier in the day, Hall indicated he might be feeling a little lucky in what was probably a message to the universe that he was getting his mojo working.
