BYU basketball coach Dave Rose is retiring

Salt Lake Tribune

BYU basketball coach Dave Rose will hold a 1 p.m. news conference at the Marriott Center on Tuesday afternoon to announce his retirement after a 14-year career leading the Cougars and becoming the school’s all-time winningest men’s basketball coach.

Rose, 61, met several times last week with BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe and other BYU administrators to discuss buying out the two years remaining on his contract.

Rose has compiled a record of 348 wins (pending the school’s appeal of an NCAA violations ruling last November) and 135 losses for a winning percentage of .720, the best in BYU history. It was the seventh-best winning percentage among active NCAA Division I head coaches when the season began.
