NBA Rumors: Celtics Could Trade Tatum, Hayward, Smart & Picks For Anthony Davis

Fadeaway World

The passing of February’s trade deadline means the Anthony Davis trade saga has been postponed for the summer. In what has been a dramatic goose chase, the Lakers failed to secure a deal with New Orleans, and sources say that is unlikely to change at season’s end.

They have the Celtics to thank for that, who have stocked up more than enough assets to secure a Davis trade. But who, exactly, will they have to give up to get him? Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report revealed the high price Boston will have to pay, and it centers around young superstar Jayson Tatum.

“The 21-year-old looks like an All-Star in training, his potential best captured in last year’s Kyrie Irving-less breakout, when Tatum grabbed the offensive reins and delivered 18.5 points on 47.5 percent shooting. Tatum might not be meeting the most optimistic expectations for his sophomore season, but he has elevated his counting categories across the board. If the Celtics are willing to move Tatum, they’d probably give the Pelicans relatively free rein to pick their favorites from Boston’s mountain of assets.”

Giving up a 21-year-old prospect like Tatum is always a tough sell, especially if you’re Boston. With Kyrie potentially leaving, and no promise Anthony Davis will stay in town when his contract expires in 2020, Tatum would be the perfect guy to step up for them in their departure.
