With the first batch of players expected to begin spring workouts in two weeks, Manny Machado remains a free agent despite an abundance of reported interest.
The New York Yankees are among the teams that have been linked to the superstar, but a source told Wallace Matthews of the New York Daily News that the Yankees haven't made a formal offer to the 26-year-old.
"We've talked in concepts," the source said.
Instead, New York has signed relief pitcher Adam Ottavino along with infielders DJ LeMahieu and Troy Tulowitzki. The team also re-signed CC Sabathia, Brett Gardner, J.A. Happ, and Zach Britton, and traded for James Paxton.
Rather than spending a fortune on Machado, the Yankees could reportedly be focused on adding starting pitching depth as protection for Sabathia. The 38-year-old underwent heart surgery in December but is expected to be ready for spring training.
