The Chicago Bears have decided to sign another place kicker on Friday, going with Tulsa’s Redford Jones.
The Bears likely brought Jones in to compete with current place kicker Cody Parkey after Parkey struggled throughout the season. Most notably, Parkey missed a field goal in the NFC Wild Card game against the Philadelphia Eagles that would have won the game for the Bears and sent them to the divisional round. Parkey went 23-for-30 on the season for a 76.7 percent rate and clearly was not the clutch kicker the Bears hoped he would be in 2018.
Redford Jones has not played in the NFL yet, but it’s worth noting Jones had a very successful career with Tulsa. Jones went 169-of-172 on extra points and 50-of-67 on field goals from 2015-2017.
