Losing to the worst team in the National Hockey League was apparently the last straw.
The Edmonton Oilers have reportedly fired general manager and president of hockey operations Peter Chiarelli.
News of Chiarelli’s firing came following a 3-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings at Rogers Place on Tuesday.
The Oilers have lost three straight heading into a 10-day hiatus for the 2019 NHL All-Star game and mandatory five-day break.
They are 5-12-0 in their past 17 games after going 9-2-2 in the first 13 games under head coach Ken Hitchcock, who replaced Todd McLellan.
