Two of the coaches responsible for making Mississippi State one of the best defensive teams in the country are sticking around Starkville for a couple more seasons.
Defensive coordinator Bob Shoop and defensive line coach Brian Baker both signed two-year contract extensions according to a report from 247Sports affiliate Genespage.com.
The news comes one day after Mississippi State lost running backs coach Charles Huff to Alabama. The Bulldogs also lost tight ends coach Mark Hudspeth to Austin Peay last month.
Retaining Shoop, though, is huge for the program. Mississippi State finished the season with the nation’s No. 1 total defense and the No. 2 scoring defense behind only the national champion Clemson Tigers. Shoop was a major reason why.
The Bulldogs thrived under his scheme, but many of the players who led the unit have departed for the NFL.
