Reddit soccer streams, a popular page where football fans could find live broadcasts of matches, has effectively been shut down due to a warning over copyright infringement.
Known as r/soccerstreams, the page's popularity soared and went on to amass more than 425,000 subscribers.
But with a number of the streams uploaded found to be illegal, a moderator post on Saturday morning read: 'We've officially reached critical mass.
'I regret to inform you all that a few days ago, the Reddit Admins got in touch with us about an impeding ban of this subreddit if changes weren't made.
'The only way to save it, from our perspective, was to cease all user related activity here.'
Soaring subscription prices have seen a large number of fans attempt to uncover streams to watch their sides for free online.
The Premier League is keen to tackle the issue of pirate broadcasting and this is the latest move in reducing the problem of streaming for free online.
