Seattle's favorite son is finally returning home!
Okay, that's a bit of a stretch, but fans can't help but smile at this latest news. According to a report, former ?Mariners' No. 2 overall pick Dustin Ackley, an INF/OF, has agreed to a minor-league deal with the club. Ackley, drafted by Seattle in 2009, last played for the M's back in 2015.
Ackley never quite lived up to the hype of a first-rounder, struggling to ever get into an offensive groove with Seattle.
He ended up getting traded to the ?Yankees in 2015. In 23 games with the Yankees that summer, Ackley hit .288, with 15 hits and four home runs. The following year, though, he was released in November. He ended up signing a minor-league deal with the Angels in 2017, but hasn't appeared in a big-league game since '16.
