Atlanta Falcons likely to discuss big contract with Julio Jones this offseason
January 4, 2019
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones reached an agreement on an adjusted contract with the team before reporting to training camp last July, with the Falcons saying they would revisit Jones’ desire for an entirely new deal in 2019.
Well, now, Atlanta seems prepared to deliver on its promise, according to Matthew Tabeek of the Falcons’ official team website:
“He and I and the organization are in a really good place right now,” according to Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff. “We thought he had a standout season. He continues to lead both on and off. His leadership is exemplary, as far as how he approached things this year. Just really excited about how he took it all on.”
While Dimitroff didn’t specify exactly when a new deal for Jones would be finalized, he said “we’ll take care of that business, and that will be done.”
Jones earned his fifth straight Pro Bowl selection this season after hauling in 113 receptions for a league-leading 1,677 yards and eight touchdowns.
