Angels interested in David Robertson

The Score

The Los Angeles Angels are interested in free-agent reliever David Robertson, a source told Jon Morosi of MLB.com.

The Angels' bullpen is in need of upgrades after the unit allowed 82 homers and posted a 3.92 ERA in 2018. Los Angeles non-tendered its primary closer last season, Blake Parker, in November, which could give Robertson the opportunity to close with the team.

The reliever last worked as a primary closer in 2017 while with the Chicago White Sox. He saved at least 30 games in three straight seasons from 2014-16. There's also familiarity between the two sides, as Angels general manager Billy Eppler is a former New York Yankees executive who worked with Robertson while both were in that organization.

However, Robertson, who's serving as his own agent this winter, apparently wants to pitch for a team close to his Rhode Island home, though Morosi noted the reliever's desire to close games.
