Nick Saban: Bowl games would ‘disintegrate’ by expanding playoff

The Score

Don't count Nick Saban in for College Football Playoff expansion.

The Alabama head coach told reporters Thursday that doubling the playoff from four teams to eight would "sort of disintegrate" bowl games not associated with the national championship.

"I think the playoff … continues to expand to minimize the importance of those games, maybe to the point where those game won't even exist," Saban said, according to ESPN's Alex Scarborough. "I'm not sure that is the best thing, overall, for college football."

Saban argued playoff expansion would lead more players to skip their bowl games to prepare for the NFL draft, resulting in fewer fans attending the games.
