University of Houston associate head coach/offensive coordinator resigned Saturday night and is expected to take a similar position at Florida State, a person with knowledge of the situation said.
Briles' departure comes less than a month after he agreed to a three-year deal worth $2.1 million. UH worked out the new contract with Briles amid overtures for the head coaching job at Texas State and for offensive coordinator positions at Florida State and Tennessee.
UH's board of regents approved new deals for Briles and run-game coordinator/offensive line coach Randy Clements earlier this month. By leaving, Briles is expected to owe about $900,000 as part of his buyout.
