Patrik Berglund's first season with the Buffalo Sabres took another surprising turn Saturday when he was suspended indefinitely by the team for "failure to report."
Berglund, acquired from St. Louis as part of the Ryan O'Reilly trade in July, has two goals and two assists with a minus-5 rating in 23 games this season. Coach Phil Housley said Berglund missed the past two games because of an illness, which was expected to prevent Berglund from playing Saturday against the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena.
The 30-year-old forward missed five games last month because of injury and has twice been a healthy scratch. Berglund began the season as the Sabres' second-line center but has failed to carve out a role, splitting time on the third and fourth lines.
