The Rockies, a team that could certainly use a seasoned first baseman, are interested in Carlos Santana from the Seattle Mariners. This isn’t the first time they’ve taken a look at the infielder, as they also were in talks for him when he was with the Phillies. Santana would help to fill the void at first base, and he could give the team some offensive power. He still has $34.5 million left on his contract, and while this is a bit pricey, he has the potential to be worth it if he can give us that much needed consistency in his position as well as at bat. If the Mariners are willing to absorb some of that $34.5 million, he might be the perfect fit for the Rockies.
Jim Bowden of ESPN also noted that the Rockies are looking at Cleveland first baseman Edwin Encarnación.
