Central Florida head coach Josh Heupel has been rewarded for the Knights' perfect 12-0 regular season with a contract extension, the university announced Friday.
Heupel's new deal goes through the 2023 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“I am truly honored to have the opportunity to lead this group of young men and represent this great university,” Heupel said in a media release . “My family and I have found an amazing community to call home. I am looking forward to the future of this program. I can’t thank [UCF athletics director] Danny White and [UCF president] Dale Whittaker enough for their support and belief in what we’re doing.”
Heupel, who starred at quarterback for Oklahoma in 1999-2000, took over the Knights this year after Scott Frost's departure for the head coaching spot at Nebraska. Coming off a 13-0 mark in 2017, expectations were sky high, but Heupel guided the Knights to a perfect 12-0 regular season in his first year.
